Blackmailers use Ctg DC's cell phone number

CHATTOGRAM, July 14: Allegations of extortion blackmailing the official cell phone number of Deputy Commissioner of Chattogram have been raised as unidentified sources staying abroad are claiming money from some ward councillors in the city.

Chattogram DC Ilyas Hossain said he has already contacted the Grameenphone authority conveying the matter to take proper steps against those involved in blackmailing through spurious means of using his official number 01713104332 to extort money.

He said he had received such information from more than one ward councillors of Chittagong City Corporation who received phone calls to pay Tk 20,000 to the caller.

He promptly informed the private mobile operator this afternoon. An official, after inquiring into the incident, told the Deputy Commissioner that his official cell phone number has been used through spurious means by someone staying abroad.

DC Ilyas, known for his honesty and transparency in the administrative activities, has also requested the BTRC authority to investigate into the matter and find out the culprits.

He also asked all concerned including the common people not to be misguided and not to make any such transaction with anybody.

It may be recalled that such attempts were revealed with official phone numbers of the same operator being used by DCs of Cumilla and Rangamati and the upazila nirbahi officer (UNO) of Kaptai over the recent weeks.
