Book fair continues to draw more visitors

Books on poetry, novel, and short stories continue to dominate the Amar Ekushey Book Fair with more people visiting the expanded fair venue each day, reports UNB.

Besides, books on politics, essays, dictionaries, rhymes and riddles are also on sale and display at different stalls in the book fair.

A total of 2,704 books made entry into the month-long Amar Ekushey Book Fair including 133 new books on the 18th day Sunday.

Poetry volumes continue to dominate the genres in terms of numbers. Of the 2,704 books released in the fair so far, 842 fall in the poetry category.

Poetry books are followed by books on novel, stories' collection, and essays with 438, 378 and 143 respectively.

The news agency found in the fair that book lovers are showing more interests in poetry volumes, novels, short stories and essays.

Publishers from across the country are publishing a substantial number of books on different issues every day while Bangla Academy is exhibiting some 141 newly printed and reprinted books.

On Sunday, a discussion focusing on A F Salahuddin Ahmed, Mujjafar Ahmed Choudhury and A K Nazmul Karim was held at 4 pm at the main stage of Bangla Academy premises with Muntasir Mamun, Mizanur Rahman Shoili, and Sonia Nishat Amin presenting keynote speeches.

Borhan Uddin Khan presided over the discussion followed by a cultural event.

Books are being sold at 25 per cent discount in the fair while one can get 10 per cent additional discount if transactions are made through the bKash.
