BR to start ticket sale on March 14

The Bangladesh Railway (BR) will start sale of train tickets for the homebound passengers on the occasion of the Eid-ul-Fitr on March 14 to operate the first intercity Eid trains on March 24.

The state-owned train operator is expected to sell 35,315 tickets daily (cent per cent online) during the upcoming Eid festival, whereas the number was 33,500 last year.

A meeting on BR's Eid preparation on Tuesday, led by its Director General Afzal Hossain, decided to operate eight special trains alongside regular intercity and express trains to facilitate the homebound passengers. But the total number of specially operated trains is yet to be finalised.

Meeting sources said 36 coaches have been sought from the BR's two workshops, to be attached with different trains considering the passengers' demands during the Eid festival.

Officials said the BR will start operating special trains from March 24, which will continue till the day just before the Eid day, and tickets of each train will be available online 10 days before the journey date.

The BR operated 10 pairs of special trains on different routes during the last Eid-ul-Fitr festival for the passengers, as they prefer trains for safe journey compared to road transports.
