BRAC to get $0.3m grant to empower small farmers across Asia, Africa

FE REPORT | July 04, 2025 00:00:00

The Rockefeller Foundation has announced a US$0.3 million worth of grant for the BRAC to support an initiative to empower 3.0 million women smallholder farmers across Bangladesh, Liberia, Tanzania, and Uganda by 2030.

The imitative aims to help the targeted farmers overcome climate vulnerability and achieve sustainable livelihoods, said a press release, issued by the Brac.

This new partnership will pilot in Bangladesh's coastal and drought-prone regions, offering farmers a comprehensive package of services.

These include access to modern agricultural technologies, real-time climate and weather data, adaptive financial tools such as crop insurance, and stronger market connections.

The model, once tested, will be expanded to other African countries where BRAC operates.

"Smallholder farmers are on the frontlines of climate change and food insecurity," the press release said, quoting Head of Asia, The Rockefeller Foundation Deepali Khanna.

"Through this support, we aim to build lasting economic opportunity for those most affected," she was quoted as saying.

"This grant demonstrates that locally led innovations, when scaled, can unlock real pathways out of poverty and vulnerability," it also said, quoting Asif Saleh, Executive Director of BRAC.

BRAC's approach is rooted in community ownership, cultural relevance, and sustainability, according to the release.

The BRAC has planned to raise $300 million in funding for this initiative, which aims to facilitate transformative change for about 14 million people.
