BRACU holds short course on CRISPR

Prof Ansar Ahmed, pro-vice chancellor of BRAC University (BRACU), delivers the welcome address at a daylong short course on "CRISPR: A Genome Editing Technology" organised by the Department of Pharmacy of BRACU at the Bistro Central restaurant at Mohakhali in the city on Wednesday.

A daylong short course on "CRISPR: A Genome Editing Technology" organised by the Department of Pharmacy of BRAC University (BRACU) was held at the Bistro Central restaurant at Mohakhali in the city on Wednesday, said a press release.

Participated by students and faculty members, the programme started at 9:00 am, sponsored by Beximco Pharmaceuticals Limited, Beacon Pharmaceuticals Limited and Navana Pharmaceuticals Limited.

Prof Ansar Ahmed, pro-vice chancellor of BRACU, presented the welcome address and praised the department's initiative as the chief guest.

Prof Eva Rahman Kabir, the department's chairperson, presided over the function giving an overview of the programmes conducted by the department in recent years.

Dr M Zulfiquer Hossain, associate professor (On Leave) of the department and Research Technology Specialist, Millipore Sigma, USA, spoke on "The cutting edge of CRISPR-Cas9 Genome Editing Technology: From Cas9-Geminin to Whole genome screening'' in the first session.

Dr Rasheduzzaman Chowdhury, research scientist, Schofield Group, University of Oxford, spoke on the "Structural Basis of CRISPR-Cas9 Directed Genome Editing" in the second session.
