March 23, 2025 00:00:00

Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) and the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Traffic Department conducted a drive at various workshops from Gabtoli Bus Terminal to Aminbazar and Beribadh areas on Saturday to prevent the movement of unfit buses during the upcoming Eid journey, reports UNB.

Anisuzzaman, Executive Magistrate of the Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA), said a drive was conducted at five workshops in the area on Saturday morning.

During the visit, it was found that none of the five workshops had obtained a licence from the BRTA. He explained that according to the Bangladesh Road Transport Act, it is mandatory for workshops to have a licence from the BRTA for car repairs, servicing, or any related work.

However, most of the workshopsand garage owners were unaware of this requirement.

The responsible persons at each workshop admitted they hadn't obtained a licence due to their lack of knowledge about the regulation.

They were issued a warning without facing fines or jail time, with instructions to obtain the necessary licences immediately, added the BRTA officer.

They also assured that no vehicles without proper fitness certification would transport long-distance passengers during Eid.

Mirpur Traffic Division Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Rahat Gao Hari and other officials from the Traffic Division were present.
