A mobile team of the Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) in separate drives on Friday in the city fined two buses for realising extra fares from passengers.
Earlier, the BRTA on August 29 last, reduced the bus fare in the city by Tk 0.05 per kilometre after the government reduced the fuel oil price by Tk 5.0 a litre.
Following the oil price reduction, the authority published the new chart fixing bus fares at Tk 2.45 per kilometre.
Led by BRTA executive magistrate Md Sajid Anwar, the team, first conducted a drive near Banani area and fined the driver of a 'Trust Paribahan' bus Tk 8,000 for not carrying the new bus fares chart in his vehicle.
Then, the team also fined another bus named '3 No. Paribahan' Tk 6,000 for realising Tk 25 fare from each passenger, instead of the government-fixed fare of Tk 20, on Karwan Bazar-Shewrapara route.
During the drive, the magistrate also stopped buses, plying on different city routes, and talked with passengers to know whether the bus operators were realising from them fares above the rate fixed by the authority.
