BSTI sues 15 business entities, fines eight eateries for selling adulterated food items

The Bangladesh Standards and Testing Institution (BSTI) lodged cases against 15 business entities and fined eight eateries across the country on Monday for selling and manufacturing adulterated food items and weight manipulation.

During the drives in different parts of the city, the BSTI filed cases against Al Madina Bakery in the city's Bhatara area for unauthorised sale of the items.

The BSTI also fined Ahili Kaba and Restaurant Tk 10000, Shalimer Garden Rose Tk 20000 in the city's Banani area and Dhansiri Restaurant Tk 0.2 million in the city's Gulshan area as per the Consumer Rights Protection Act for selling food items in an unhealthy environment.

Three cases were filed against M/S Yammy Yammy, M/S Agora Super Store and M/S Unimers Limited in the city's Dhanmandi area for weight and measurement manipulation.

The BSTI also filed cases against different businesses in Nilphamari, Dinajpur, Sylhet, Cumilla and Rajshahi for unauthorised selling and manufacturing of adulterated food items and weight manipulation, and fined different businesses Tk 152,000 in those districts.
