Bus-truck collision leaves three dead, 10 injured in Pabna

Five people were killed in separate road accidents in two districts on Friday, reports UNB.

In Pabna: three people were killed and 10 others injured in a head-on collision between a bus and a truck on Dhaka-Pabna Highway in Santhia upazila of Pabna district, said police.

Two of the deceased were identified as Abed Ali, 37, son of late Hashem Molla of Shantipur area under Sujanagar upazila of the district, and Mansur Ali, 40, son of Irad Ali Promanik of Karigar para under Ataikula Police Station of the district.

Officer-in-charge of Madhabpur Highway Police Station Mustafizur Rahman said the Pabna-bound bus from Dhaka collided with the stone-laden truck in Purbo Bangram area around 6am, leaving the three dead on the spot and 10 others critically injured.

The injured were sent to Pabna General Hospital and conditions of some were stated to be critical, he said.

All the victims were bus passengers, the OC said, adding that legal action will be taken accordingly.

Meanwhile, in Chuadanga two motorcycle riders were killed after being hit by a pickup van on the Alamdanga-Kushtia regional road in Chuadanga district, police said.

The tragic accident occurred in the Naodapara area of Alamdanga upazila. The deceased were identified as Riyad (13), son of Mahmudul Hasan Chanchal, chairman of Belgachi Union Parishad, and Md. Zahurul Islam Palash (35), a resident of Faridpur village in Alamdanga and an employee of the chairman's farm.

According to police and eyewitness accounts, Riyad and Palash were returning home in Alamdanga from Kushtia town after shopping. As they reached Naodapara, a speeding pickup van struck their motorcycle from behind, causing both to be thrown off and sustain serious injuries.

Despite prompt rescue efforts by locals to take them to hospital, Riyad died on the spot, while Palash succumbed en route to Chuadanga Sadar Hospital.

Masudur Rahman, officer-in-charge (OC) of Alamdanga Police Station, said that the pickup van had been seized, but the driver fled the scene immediately after the accident.
