CA meets secretaries, army chief, civil society leaders

Chief Advisor (CA) Muhammad Yunus has met with the senior secretaries and secretaries of 25 ministries and divisions in his portfolio, reports bdnews24.com.

The head of the interim government met with them at his current residence State Guest House Jamuna at 11:15pm for a meeting on Monday that lasted until 1:30pm.

During the meeting with the secretaries, the chief advisor gave various instructions, according to one of the attendees.

"[He spoke of] creating a transparent and accountable environment and to focus on the issues brought up by the youth of the country - particularly to create a fair and transparent working environment."

"The honourable chief advisor also instructed us to attend to our work with care.

During the distribution of portfolios, Yunus took charge of the Cabinet Division, Armed Forces Division, Ministry of Defence, Ministry of Education, Ministry of Road Transport and Bridges, Ministry of Food, Ministry of Housing and Public Works, Ministry of Agriculture, Ministry of Science and Technology, Ministry of Railway, Ministry of Public Administration, Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources, Ministry of Shipping, Ministry of Water Resources, Ministry of Women and Children Affairs, Ministry of Relief and Disaster Management, Ministry of Information and Broadcast, Ministry of Expatriate Welfare and Foreign Employment, Ministry of Commerce, Ministry of Labour and Employment, Ministry of Cultural Affairs, Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism, Ministry of Liberation War Affairs, Ministry of Land and Ministry of Textiles and Jute.

The interim government led by Nobel laureate Yunus took their oaths of office on Aug 8, following the fall of the Sheikh Hasina government in a student-led mass movement. That day Yunus and 13 other advisors were sworn in by the president. Two more advisors were sworn in on Sunday.

Another advisor, freedom fighter Faruk E Azam, is scheduled to be sworn in at the Bangabhaban at 11am.

BSS adds: Chief Adviser Professor Dr Muhammad Yunus has expressed satisfaction at the significant improvement of the law and order in the country.

He appreciated the military's active role in helping improve the situation when Chief of Army Staff General Waker-Uz Zaman met the Chief Adviser on Monday7 at his office at the State Guest House Jamuna, said Chief Adviser's office spokesman.

Senior Bangladesh Army officials attended the meeting. Cabinet Secretary Mahbub Hossain was present.

Later in the afternoon, a group of civil society leaders met the Chief Adviser.

The civil society leaders included former cabinet secretary Ali Imam Majumder, eminent economist Wahiduddin Mahmud and distinguished fellow of the Centre for Policy Dialogue Debapriya Bhattacharya.
