Call for increasing government capacity to cut disaster risks

Speakers at a seminar in the city called for increasing government's capability along with international cooperation to reduce disaster risks, reports BSS.

Twenty-one local and foreign agencies organised the seminar at the CIRDAP auditorium ahead of an Asian minister-level conference on disaster risk reduction to be held in New Delhi in November.

Conducted by Rezaul Karim of Coast Trust, the seminar was attended by Disaster Management and Relief Secretary Shah Kamal as the chief guest and Department of Disaster Management Director General Reaz Ahmed as the special guest.

Hasina Imam of Dan Church Aid, Shashanka Shadi of BRAC, K Zakaria Khaled of Bangladesh Red Crescent, M Jasimuddin of ADAB, Aminul Kaiser Dipu of ESC, Wahida Bashar of CordAid, Kabita Bose of Help Ag, Palash Kundu of SKS and AB Banerjee of Pidim Foundation took part in the discussion.
