There is no alternative but to form tribunals to settle the cases against human traffickers, said the national human rights commission chairman on Wednesday.
He said it is very difficult to hear the description of migrant workers who fall prey to abuse in the Middle-Eastern countries.
National Human Rights Commission of Bangladesh (NHRCB) chairman Kazi Reazul Hoque was speaking at a consultative meeting on the prevention of human trafficking at Brac Centre Inn.
The NHRCB and Brac co-hosted the event where officials and rights campaigners, among others, were present.
They made a plea to the government to form tribunals to dispose of the cases against human trafficking.
Nazrul Islam, lifetime member of the commission, said the formation of tribunals is now urgently needed to ensure justice.
All the stakeholders have to be work together to resolve the crises, he added.
As a panellist at the event, human rights lawyer Salma Ali said it is needed to make people aware of human trafficking.
Shariful Islam, head of BRAC migration programme, presented a keynote, saying the kingpins of human traffickers still remain out of touch.
Although a total of 5,716 cases were filed since the enactment of the human trafficking law 2012, the number of settlements is very nominal.
