CCC kicks off special drain cleaning drive

CHATTOGRAM, April 10: Chittagong City Corporation (CCC) today launched a 25-day special crash programme of removing sand and waste from the drains and spraying mosquito repellent to rid the city dwellers of the menacing mosquito attack.

Mayor of the city corporation AJM Nasir Uddin inaugurated the programme by removing mud and waste from the drains and applying mosquito killer spray in Boxirhart area under Anderkilla ward no 32 this morning.

The mayor said the special crash programme will be conducted in all 41 wards of the city until May 5.

More than 500 conservancy workers have been engaged in the mosquito killing drive.

No additional conservancy workers have been hired from outside the programme and the drive is being conducted with the existing equipment, he said, adding this is under the first phase of the programme and the drive will resume after two months again.

Presided over by Anderkilla ward councillor Jahar Lal Hazari, the event was attended by several ward councillors, engineers, officers and conservancy workers.
