CHATTOGRAM, July 17: The Asian University for Women (AUW) organised a science fair on the campus on July 17 as part of its Math and Science Summer School 2025. AUW launched the Summer School, funded by Chevron Bangladesh, in the first week of July.

A total of 102 college students from different districts, who joined the Summer School, participated in the science fair after 15 days of schooling. Divided into over a dozen groups, they showcased various innovative projects.

Chevron has been supporting the AUW Math and Science Summer School for the sixth year since its launch in 2019 - aiming to inspire young women from remote areas.

Chevron Bangladesh's Head of Community Engagement and Sustainability A K M Arif Akter said, "We have been supporting this programme since 2019 to challenge the mindset that girls can't study science. Around Taka 300,000 is spent for each student. Half of this year's participants have come from Sylhet region, where we operate, while the rest are from Dhaka, Chattogram, and the Chattogram Hill Tracts (CHT)."

AUW Summer School Coordinator Iffat Mahjabin said, "We screen applications of the interested students and conduct their interviews over mobile phone. Though the programme paused during the pandemic in 2020 and 2021, it resumed in 2022."

"So far, 270 students have completed the programme. Many of them have left it with transformed career goals. Some 15-20 top-performing participants will receive direct admission offer to AUW, bypassing the usual entrance exams," she added.
