Child's body cut into pieces in Ctg

CHATTOGRAM, Nov 25: Seven-year-old child Ayat was strangled to death. She went missing 10 days ago from the CEPZ police station area of the port city Chattogram. The killer chopped the child into six pieces and threw them into the sea.

A team of the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) arrested the youth named Abir in connection with the murder. Abir has already confessed that he chopped Ayat's body into six pieces after strangling her.

Earlier on November 15, Alina Islam Ayat went missing while going to study Arabic in the neighbouring mosque from her house in the Nayarhat Vidyut Office area of EPZ police station. The next day, his father Sohail Rana filed a diary with EPZ police station. Alongside the EPZ police station, the PBI took part in investigation.

A team led by Morjina Akhter, a recently joined Inspector of PBI Chattogram Metro, arrested and interrogated Abir. A PBI official said that the mystery of Ayat's murder has been revealed.

According to PBI sources, Abir was identified after collecting CCTV footage of the area where Ayat went missing. Then PBI arrested him on Thursday night. During interrogation, Abir said that he had kidnapped Ayat for realizing ransom. As Ayat screamed he strangled her to death and then chopped the body into six pieces and threw them into the sea water.

The police have already recovered Ayat's clothes and shoes and the tools used in her murder. An operation is underway to recover the body.

Abir, a garment factory worker by profession, used to live in Ayat's grandfather's rental house. The 19-year-old youth lives with his mother on Akmal Ali Road in the area.
