Close ones recall Razi's contributions

Family members, friends, colleagues and close ones of late Zillul Hye Razi, who was a trade analyst, on Saturday recalled his versatile contribution to the country's economy and integration of limitless virtues.

They praised his contribution specially in strengthening the trade relation between Bangladesh and the European Union (EU) at a memorial meeting held at the R C Majumdar Arts Auditorium of Dhaka University (DU), organised by Dhaka University Economics Department Alumni Association (DUEDAA).

Mr Razi died of cardiac arrest on November 27, 2017 at the age of 66.

He retired as a trade adviser from the European Commission's Dhaka office in 2016. He completed his masters degree in economics from the DU in 1974.

He had been involved many charitable orgnaisations including Ispahani Islamia Eye Institute and Hospital as an active member of the management board.

DUEDAA members including former advisor to the caretaker government Hossain Zillur Rahman, chairman of Shinhan Emulsion Co (BD) Limited Syed Mahmud Huq, Professor of DU Economics Department M A Taslim and Mr Razi's elder brother Lutful Hye spoke on the occasion among others.

Mr Hossain Zillur said that a true patriot Mr Razi played the most efficient role whenever required. "He was concerned with both economic and political affairs for the sake of country's progress."

He praised Mr Razi for his ardent desire to take Bangladesh to a place of respect among the countries.

Prof M A Taslim said Mr Razi had a very sharp memory and the ability to easily connect between ideas in making better decisions. He made all-out efforts to protect Bangladesh's economic interest with the EU during any crisis.

Following his retirement from the EU, Mr Razi wanted to dedicate himself completely for the local economy," Mr Taslim said, adding that: "Such sudden demise is an irreparable loss for us."

The well-wishers particularly mentioned of Mr Razi's role in regaining the export market in the EU, following the ban on Bangladeshi shrimps in 1997.

Mr Razi joined Bangladesh Shrimp and Fish Foundation as a policy advisor.

Later, a doa mahfil was held seeking eternal peace for the departed soul.
