Coast Guard seize 0.15m Yaba pills in Teknaf

COX'S BAZAR, Apr 2: Members of Coast Guard seized 0.15 million pieces of contraband Yaba tablets from Bangla channel area in the Bay of Bengal early Monday.

The market value of the seized Yaba tablets is Tk 75 million, sources said.

They said a Coast Guard patrol team was waiting at Shahparir Dwip area in Naf River since Sunday night after they came to know that a huge quantity of Yaba pills was being smuggled into Teknaf from Myanmar.

Acting on a tip-off, Coast Guard members challenged an engine-driven fishing boat at Bangla Channel around 2:30 am on Monday.

Sensing the presence of Coast Guard men, smugglers threw plastic-made sacks, stuffed with Yaba tablets, into the seawater and managed to flee from the scene with their boat. Later, Coast Guard members seized 0.15 million pieces of Yaba tablets from two sacks.

Assistant Director of Coast Guard Lt Commander Abdullah Al Farooq confirmed the matter.
