Noted comedian Anisur Rahman, popularly known as 'Anis' on both big and small screens, has died in Dhaka, reports bdnews24.com.

Anis, who entertained the audience for decades with his spontaneous comic acting, breathed his last at the age of 78 at his Tikatuli residence on Sunday.

Bangladesh Film Artistes Association President Misha Shawdagar confirmed the news.

Anis was suffering from old-age complications for long.

The actor's body was taken to his ancestral home at Ballabpur village in Chhagalnaiya Upazila in Feni on Monday following a funeral prayer. He was laid to rest at his family graveyard in the evening.

The first funeral prayer was held at Tikatuli Jame Mosque. Another celebrated comedian Tele Samad died on April 06.

Anis began his career as an actor in comic role in 1960 with the film 'Bishkanya.' However, the film was never released.

His first released film was 'Ei to Jibon' in 1963 directed by Zillur Rahman. Then, he never looked back and performed in 250 films.

Anis acted in many programmes on Bangladesh Television since its inception.
