FE REPORT | November 06, 2020 00:00:00

Conviction rate for the cases lodged by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) increased to 77 per cent during the first nine months of the running year from last year's overall 62 per cent.

However, case disposal rate declined to only 3.21 per cent in the meantime compared to last year's 9.96 per cent, according to official statistics of the commission.

At a press briefing on Thursday, ACC Commissioner Dr Md Mozammel Haque Khan said, "Conviction rate for ACC cases increased to 77.17 per cent during January to September this year from only 37 per cent five years ago."

Terming ACC as more successful and effective institution now than ever, he also said, "It was possible due to improvement of institutional ability of the commission in the areas of inquiry, investigation and prosecution."

Conviction rate for ACC cases was once below 20 per cent but in last four to five years, the rate was constantly over 60 per cent, he added.
