Court orders freezing three A/Cs of ex-DSCC mayor Taposh

FE REPORT | October 10, 2025 00:00:00

A Dhaka Court has ordered the concerned government authorities to freeze three bank accounts owned by former Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) Mayor Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh.

Judge Md Sabbir Faiz of the Metropolitan Senior Special Judge's Court in Dhaka passed the order on Thursday after hearing a petition filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) to freeze the accounts.

According to the petition submitted in court, the accounts in question hold a total of Tk 1.79 million.

Earlier that day, ACC Assistant Director Mohammad Ferdous Rahman, who is also the investigation officer in the corruption case against Taposh, submitted a petition in court requesting the freeze of the bank accounts.

The application stated that during his tenure as both a Member of Parliament and mayor, Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh allegedly abused his power and amassed assets inconsistent with his known sources of income through corruption. The total value of these assets is estimated to be Tk 731.96 million.

The investigation further revealed that Taposh conducted suspicious transactions, including transfers totaling Tk 5.39 billion and USD 517,527 across 27 bank accounts in his name, which were deemed inconsistent with his legitimate income sources.

The petition also stated that reliable sources during the investigation revealed that Taposh is attempting to transfer or hide movable assets under his name, raising concerns about potential asset dissipation before the conclusion of the case.
