Court starts recording of witness depositions against Hasina, family members

A Dhaka court on Monday started recording witness depositions in three corruption cases filed against ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina, her family members, and others on charges of abusing power in the acquisition of plots in Rajuk's Purbachal New Town Project.

Special Court no 5 in Dhaka Judge Md Abdullah Al Mamun recorded depositions from three Anti-Corruption Commission officials, who are also plaintiff of the cases, on the first day of proceedings.

The witnesses are ACC Assistant Directors Salahuddin, SM Rashedul Hassan, and Afnan Jannat Keya. The court also fixed August 26 for further proceedings of the case.

ACC Prosecutor Khan Mohammad Moinul Hasan who appeared in the court hearing for the anti-graft body, confirmed the court order to the FE.

Earlier on July 31 this year, two separate special courts in Dhaka framed charges against 27 individuals in six cases filed on charges of abusing power in acquiring plots at Rajuk's Purbachal New Town Project.

Later, Judge Md Abdullah Al Mamun fixed August 11 to start recording of witness depositions in three cases.

The three cases heard by him include one where 12 individuals including Hasina are named as accused, another where 17 individuals including Joy were accused and another case where 18 individuals, including Putul, have been named as accused.
