Ctg-Dhaka oil transportation thru' pipeline likely from Jan

CHATTOGRAM, Nov 14: The commissioning of the Chattogram-Dhaka oil pipeline is likely to take place in December and may be handed over to the Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation (BPC) in January of next year. The project's works have almost been completed now.

This project will be the first of its kind in Bangladesh.

The Chattogram-Dhaka oil pipeline project was undertaken to save time, reduce transportation costs, and lower system losses and environmental pollution, according to industry insiders.

The total cost of the pipeline project has increased to Tk 36.00 billion in phases. According to BPC officials, the pipeline can transport 3.0 million MT of fuel oil annually, saving around Tk 1.50 billion in costs every year.

BPC officials have confirmed that pipe installation is fully completed, and the tank station construction is finished. Pre-commissioning activities are currently underway.

The oil pipeline project was planned in 2015 with a target completion date of 2017.

BPC also conducted a feasibility study and engaged Engineers India Limited as consultants.

Following the study, a policy decision was made to proceed with the project.

The Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) approved the pipeline project, titled "Supply of Fuel Oil in the Pipeline from Chattogram to Dhaka," with an initial budget of Tk 28.61 billion in October 2018.

The Chattogram-Dhaka oil pipeline was designed to transport 2.7-3.0 million MT of fuel annually, with the aim to increase the capacity to 5.0 million MT.
