CHITTAGONG, Sept 22: A total of 12 panels are contesting in the upcoming Chittagong University Central Students' Union (CUCSU) and hall union elections, scheduled for Oct 12.
The EC announced the primary candidatures after scrutiny on Monday. A total of 1,162 candidates took nomination papers to contest for a total of 232 posts in the CUCSU, hall union and hostel union elections. Of them, 931 students submitted their nomination papers, and 232 did not submit. Of the 232, the EC cancelled 19 nomination papers, including two VP candidates and one GS. The EC will declare the final list of candidates on September 25.
Voting will be held for 28 posts in the CUCSU, 16 in the hall, and 10 in the hostel elections. The total number of voters in the CUCSU elections is 27,634. Voting will be held simultaneously from 9 am to 4 pm.
'Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) Panel'
From the JCD panel, Sajjad Hossain Hridoy will contest for vice president (VP) post, Md. Shafayat Hossain for general secretary (GS) post, and Ayubur Rahman Toufiq for AGS, among others.
'Sompritir Chhatra Jote'
The panel is supported by Islami Chhatra Shibir. Ibrahim Hossain Rony has been nominated for the post of VP, Saeed Bin Habib for GS, and Sajjad Hossain Munna for AGS.
'Droho Porishod'
The candidates of the panel, supported by Bangladesh Students Union and Samajtantrik Chhatra Front, are - Riju Lakshmi Abrod for the post of VP, Ifaz Uddin Ahmed Emu for GS, and Sheikh Junaid Kabir for AGS.
'Swatrantra Chhatra Sommilon'
The full-fledged panel consists of the July Uprising injured students and its frontliners. From the panel, Mahfuzur Rahman is contesting for VP, R M Rashidul Haque Dinar for GS, and Jannatul Ferdous for AGS.
'Swacheton Chhatra Sangsad'
The full-fledged panel, backed by Islami Chhatra Andolan, named Abdur Rahman Robin as its VP candidate, Abdur Rahman as GS, and Md. Rakib as AGS.
'Boichitrer Oikkyo'
The full panel - supported by political, social and caste-based organisations as well as individual students - nominated Dhruba Barua for VP, Sudarshan Chakma for GS, and Zakirul Islam Jasim for AGS.
'Ohingsho Chhatra Oikkyo'
It is a non-political panel, formed by the students who believe in Sufi ideals. Muhammad Farhadul Islam is contesting for VP from this panel, Muhammad Yasin Uddin Shakir for GS, and Muhammad Shahidul Islam Shahed for AGS.
'Sovereign Student Unity'
It is a non-political panel, comprising leaders of various extra-curricular and co-curricular organisations of CU. From it, Tausif Muttaki Chowdhury will run for VP, Sajjad Hossain for GS, and Syed Muhammad Mushfiq Hasan for AGS.
'Swatantra Chhatra Jote'
It is a joint panel of Student Alliance for Democracy and Chhatra Federation. Abir Bin Javed is contesting for VP from the panel, Chowdhury Tasnim Jahan Shrawan for GS, and Palash Dey for AGS.
'CUCSU for Rapid Change'
The panel is supported by Chhatra Odhikar Porishad, from which Tamjid Uddin is contesting for VP, Shakib Mahmud Rumi for GS, and Roman Rahman for AGS.
'Revolution for State of Humanity'
Kefayet Ullah is contesting for VP from the five-member panel, Kazi Shahriar Ullah for GS post, and Jonayed Shiblifor AGS.
'Chhatra Odhikar Parishad and Chhatra Mojlish'
From the panel, Tamjid Uddin is nominated for the post of VP, Shakib Mahmud Rumi for GS, and Md. Roman Rahman for AGS.
