Cultural activities can prevent militancy, fanaticism: State minister

State Minister for Cultural Affairs Ministry KM Khalid at a function underscored the need for conducting cultural activities among the youths as it could prevent militancy and fanatics, reports BSS.

"Realising the matter, the government led by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has taken up a plan to construct cultural hall at 100 upazilas each across the country to conduct cultural activities smoothly", he said.

State Minister KM Khalid made the observations while exchanging views with the cultural workers at a meeting organised by Sammilito Sangskritik Jote (SSJ) of Gaibandha district unit at the auditorium of Zila Shilpakala Academy of the town on Wednesday as the chief guest.

Deputy Commissioner Abdul Matin, police super Muhammad Towhidul Islam and mayor of Gaibandha Municipality Adv Shah Masud Zahangir Kabir Milon also spoke at the event as the special guests while president of SSJ, district unit, Alamgir Kabir Badal presided over the ceremony.

Not only that, the cultural activities could enrich the nation and help push forward the country towards desired development, Khalid said.

The cultural workers participated in the Liberation War in 1971 responding to call of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and a number of singers inspired the freedom fighters through rendering songs at Shwadhin Bangla Betar Kendra, the state minister also said.

Terming Gaibandha town as the cultural one, the state minister instructed the district administration to hold 'Folk Festival' here on Mujib Year, birth centenary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, as early as possible through active participation of the cultural workers.
