Dainik Azadi journalist comes under attack in Ctg

CHATTOGRAM, Apr. 17: A group of miscreants attacked a journalist at Dharmapur in Fatikchhari upazila of Chattogram last night inflicting severe injuries on him.

The victim identified as Solaiman Akash, the Dainik Azadi correspondent for Fatikchhari, is now undergoing treatment at Chattogram Medical College Hospital.

Sources said the attackers, who were identified, swooped on Solaiman Akash, in an apparent bid to kill him, when he was returning home at Dharmapur around 11:00 pm.

Locals rushed to the scene hearing his shout and the attackers got away leaving him injured.

Later family members took the victim to the CMCH where he is now receiving treatment.

The superintendent of police, Chattogram visited the injured journalist at the hospital and talked with him.

Chattogram Union of Journalists (CUJ) condemned the attack on journalist Solaiman Akash and demanded immediate arrest of the perpetrators.

CUJ president Nazimuddin Shyamol and general secretary Hasan Ferdous in a statement said miscreants are carrying out attacks on journalists in Chattogram, which is actually an attack on the freedom of press.

The CUJ leaders called upon the government to ensure security of the journalists.
