The Detective Branch (DB) of DMP arrested six members of a robber gang on Tuesday in connection with a daylight robbery in the capital's Mirpur area. During the robbery on May 27, Tk 2.1 million (21 lakh) and a significant amount of foreign currency were looted from a money exchange businessman.
Joint Commissioner of DB-South Nasirul Islam disclosed the development to the media at a press briefing at the DMP Media Centre on Wednesday.

On May 27, owner of Mahmud Money Exchange Md Russell and his brother-in-law Zahidul Haque Chowdhury were on foot, carrying Tk 2.1 million and foreign currencies from their home at Mirpur-11 to their office at Mirpur-10.
Some seven to eight masked robbers intercepted them near the alley between the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium and the fire service office at around 9:40 am. When the victims tried to resist, one of the robbers fired a blank shot, while another struck Zahidul with a machete on his waist, leaving him seriously injured. The robbers then fled towards Mirpur-1. A passerby recorded the incident on video, which later went viral on social media.
Subsequent raids in Dhaka, Barishal, Patuakhali, Mymensingh, and Jashore led to the arrests of the gang's 'mastermind' Jalil Molla and five others.
All arrestees are professional robbers with previous records of involvement in robbery, murder, and arms-related cases in Dhaka and other districts.
