Dengue claims two more lives -----------

FE REPORT | September 23, 2025 00:00:00

Dengue claimed two more lives across the country in the last 24 hours until Monday morning.

Some 678 people diagnosed with dengue positive were also hospitalised during the period.

With these deaths, the dengue toll has reached 181 this year and hospitalisation cases to 42,509, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) daily bulletin.

Of the deceased, one male aged 62 years died in Mymensingh Medical College, while another one was 15-year old female who died at Sher-E-Bangla Medical College Hospital in Barishal.

However, 555 patients were discharged from hospital after recovery from the deadly disease until Monday morning. A total of 40,186 patients have been discharged after recovery this year.

Among the new cases, Dhaka division remains the most affected, with Dhaka North and Dhaka South reporting 126 and 74 cases respectively. Dhaka division reported 113 cases.

The data available with the DGHS shows a continued higher infection rate among males, who constitute 62.8 per cent of the daily new cases. The 21-25 age group was the most affected in the period with 99 cases. Health authorities continue to urge preventive measures to control the mosquito-borne disease.

In the wake of dengue outbreak, DGHS Director General Professor Dr. Abu Zafar held a press briefing at his office on Monday.

He said the highest number of dengue deaths this year have been among patients aged 20 to 30 years.

"Many of them came to the hospital after six to seven days of fever, delaying treatment, and died within two to three days of admission," he said.

Although the number of infected people is higher than last year, the mortality rate is comparatively lower, he said.

"No matter how many measures the government takes, it will be difficult to control the dengue situation if the public is not aware," he added.
