Dengue toll rises to 193 with another death

Covid fatality nil for fifth straight day

With another death reported in 24 hours until Friday morning, this year's fatalities from Dengue climbed to 193, reports UNB.

During this period, 266 patients were hospitalised with the viral fever, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

The latest death was reported from Chattogram, taking the death toll in the division to 49.

Of the new patients, 150 were admitted to different hospitals in Dhaka and 116 outside it, according to the DGHS.

A total of 3,252 dengue patients, including 1,923 in the capital, are now receiving treatment at hospitals across the country.

The directorate has recorded 46,752 dengue cases and 43,307 recoveries so far this year.

This year's fatalities from the mosquito-borne disease reached 182 on Tuesday, exceeding all previous records in Bangladesh. Earlier the country recorded the highest 179 deaths from Dengue in a year in 2019.

Meanwhile, BSS adds: Bangladesh on Friday recorded zero Covid-19 death for fifth straight day while it reported 48 coronavirus positive cases.

"Bangladesh reported 1.97 percent Covid-19 positive cases as 2,434 samples were tested during the last 24 hours," a daily statement of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) said.

In the past 24 hours, the combined figure of coronavirus infection in Dhaka district and the capital is 25 while zero Covid-19 death was reported during the period.

The official tally showed that the virus killed a total of 29,426 people and infected 20,36,109 so far, the statement added.

The recovery count rose to 19,83,424 after another 166 patients were discharged from the dedicated hospitals during the last 24 hours.

From the beginning of the pandemic, 97.41 percent Covid-19 patients recovered among the infected people while 1.45 percent died, the DGHS statistics showed.

Among the 29,426 fatalities, 12,943 occurred in Dhaka, 5,902 in Chattogram, 2,160 in Rajshahi, 3,735 in Khulna, 993 in Barishal, 1,355 in Sylhet, 1,429 in Rangpur and 909 in Mymensingh divisions.
