Condolences pour in for Manzur Elahi

Dhaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI) deeply mourned the death of Syed Manzur Elahi after the renowned industrialist passed away on Wednesday.

Syed Manzur Elahi (83), one of the pioneers of the country's leather and modern footwear industry, former advisor to the caretaker government and chairman of Apex Group, breathed his last at a hospital in Singapore.

The DCCI president and members of its board of directors extended their profound sympathy to the bereaved family.

The business community of Bangladesh will always remember Syed Manzur Elahi's great contribution to the business sector, economy and socio-economic development of the country, DCCI President Taskeen Ahmed said.

He said Manzur Elahi was the pioneer in exporting Bangladesh's footwear and leather products to different countries, through which the market of our leather products in the world market expanded with a good reputation, and a positive branding in the global market which has later played an immense role in the development and export of our local industry.

The DCCI president also said that late Manzur Elahi had been working relentlessly to improve a business friendly environment as well as to create employment opportunities in the country.

"The death of noted entrepreneur Syed Manzur Elahi is indeed considered as an irreparable loss to the overall business community," Taskeen Ahmed added.
