Land owners of the capital city Sunday urged the government to revise some provisions of Detailed Area Plan (DAP) 2022-2035 as they believe the DAP has been discriminatory for most of them.
They made the plea while placing their seven-point demand that includes following of the Dhaka Building Construction Rules, 2008, in terms of height of buildings, and widening all roads in the city to at least 20 feet.
According to the new DAP, land owners in different areas are now allowed to construct only five-storey buildings, while the Dhaka Building Construction Rules, 2008, permits 10-storeyed buildings on the same pieces of land.
They came up with the demand at a press conference organised by the Affected Landowners of Dhaka City at the CIRDAP Auditorium in the capital's Topkhana Road area.
Coordinator of the platform Dr Dewan S A Sajjad, joint coordinators Humayun Kabir, K M Azaz Mahmud, and a group of land owners were present at the conference.
Addressing the journalists, Mr S A Sajjad said the DAP 2022-2035 was formulated during the previous dictatorial government bypassing many problems of the city.
He also alleged that the important document was prepared by the autocrat ruler's accomplices and corrupt officials of RAJUK in their own interests.
He said the DAP provided for construction of high-rise buildings in only 20 per cent of the planned area of Dhaka city, whereas the remaining 80 per cent of the area has been tagged as unplanned area.
"If the DAP is not revised to address the discriminations, we shall continue to announce different programs," Mr Sajjad said.
They also demanded an end to land filling of water bodies, canals and rivers, stopping building construction on paddy fields and stopping harassment by the RAJUK officials.
