DMP nabs 283 on criminal charges in 24 hrs

Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has arrested 283 persons during raids over the last 24 hours (Friday 6:00 am to Saturday 6:00 am) on different criminal charges from several places of the capital.
Of the arrestees, eight are professional robbers while 26 are muggers, six extortionists, 20 thieves and 16 are drug traders and 31 wanted accused.
Three knives, 300 rounds of bullets, three switch gears, five mobile phone sets and cash Tk1,600, 10 litres of locally made liquor, 121 pieces of Yaba, 1,250 grams of hashish and 12.5 grams of heroin were also recovered from their possession.
Deputy Police Commissioner ( Media and Public Relations) of DMP Muhammad Talebur Rahman said the policing activities ( patrolling) in the city has been strengthened aiming to keep the law and order situation stable.
He said that a total of 586 patrolling police teams from 50 police stations of the DMP have been discharging duties round the clock to ensure that law and order situation is under control.
He also said that apart from police patrol, the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC), Anti Terrorism Unit (ATU), Armed Police Battalion (APBN) teams are also carrying out drives to ensure safety and security for the city dwellers. He added apart from the police patrol teams formed by the DMP, 14 CTTC teams, 12 Anti Terrorism Unit ( ATU) teams and 12 teams jointly formed by RAB and police are also discharging duties for maintaining law and order in the city.
