FE Report | May 14, 2019 00:00:00

Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) mayor Atiqul Islam urged city dwellers to check price list before buying commodities from markets.

He made the remarks on Monday while visiting a city kitchen market at Uttara Sector-6 to verify whether commodity prices remain stable or beyond the government-fixed ones.

During the visit, the DNCC boss monitored grocery and kitchen shops to verify whether they were maintaining the government-fixed price chart or not.

For violating government-fixed price chart, on-duty executive magistrate Sohel Rana fined two grocery shop owners Tk 30000 in the presence of the DNCC chief for selling date-expired products.

The DNCC mayor also fined three kitchen shop owners with Tk 55,000 for not keeping government-fixed price chart and charging more to consumers.

The DNCC mayor told the reporters after the visit that the authorities will fine and hand down legal punishment if anyone found selling commodities beyond government-fixed prices.

Executive magistrate Sajid Anwar conducted drive in Uttara Sector-6 and evicted 30 footpath shops and fined Meena Bazar Tk 0.3 million and 'Shop an Save' Tk 0.1 million for violation of consumers rights.
