A government watchdog during separate drives in four districts on Sunday fined 29 businesses Tk 0.173 million for violating consumer rights in various ways.
Officials of the Directorate of National Consumer Rights Protection (DNCRP) conducted the drives in the districts- Dhaka, Chattogram, Netrakona and Cox's Bazar.
A DNCRP team, led by its Dhaka divisional office Deputy Director Monjur Mohammad Shahriar, conducted a drive plus market monitoring in the city's New Market and Shah Ali areas, according to a statement issued on Sunday.
The team slapped financial penalties on 13 businesses, ranging from Tk 500 to Tk 5,000, for not displaying the price charts at their respective shops. Three eateries were also fined Tk 28,000 during the drive.
