Drive against criminals to begin in Ramadan

March 02, 2025 00:00:00

FE REPORT

Detective police will carry out an all-out operation against criminals to maintain law and order during the holy month of Ramadan.

A high officer of the Detective Branch (DB) of Police provided the information to the media at the DMP Media Centre on Saturday.

"We'll carry out an all-out operation against criminals during Ramadan. We want to win public trust," said Additional Police Commissioner Rezaul Karim Mallick, also chief of the Dhaka city DB.

"Detectives have relentlessly been working to maintain law and order. Apart from regular work, the DB is going to carry out a special drive in Ramadan. It will be a special detective drive," he said. During the operation, detectives in disguise of general people would catch miscreants, the police officer said.

"We've increased our intelligence so that none could create anarchy or any form of violent activities or sabotages in Ramadan," he continued.

Mr Mallick said they have also taken security measures to check any untoward incidents on long routes.

Those who are involved in stealing and robbery are generally the persons aged between 15 and 20 years. Most of them are members of juvenile gangs (kishore gangs), he added.

The police officer alleged that stalwarts of the fascist political party (Awami League) were instigating the juvenile gang members to commit stealing and robbery.

"We have heard that several terrorist groups are active at different places in the capital, so we are going on an all-out action against them."

The joint forces have increased their activities to keep law and order under control, he said, adding that army personnel play a significant role in this regard.

"We (DB) have been providing necessary reports to the joint forces. Law and order is improving day by day. We hope you will see a better situation in future." he said with an optimistic tone.

The chief of the Dhaka city DB called upon the people to inform DB police if anyone is detained by persons wearing plain clothes.
