DRU chief escapes abduction bid

Miscreants tried to pick up president of Dhaka Reporters' Unity Shahed Chowdhury from the city's Bijoy Sarani crossing Sunday evening, reports UNB.

Shahed Chowdhury, also the city editor of the Bangla daily Samokal, was on way to the Tejgaon newspaper office in a private car from the DRU office after Iftar.

As he reached the Bijoy Sarani crossing, two youths boarding a white microbus intercepted his car around 8:15 pm.

They dragged him out of his car and tried to pick him up into the microbus, said Sabbir Newaj, a special correspondent of the Samokal.

As Shahed Chowdhury raised a hue and cry for help, pedestrians came forward to help him. Sensing danger, the two youths fled the scene, said Sabbir Newaj quoting Shahed Chowdhury as saying.

Shahed suffered a wound in his hand during the scuffle with the miscreants, he added.
