DSCC councillors decry water supply crunch

Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) councillors on Thursday sharply criticised the prevailing crisis of pure drinking water, mixing of sewerage lines with water pipelines and many other issues in their respective areas which make them embarrassed.

The councillors also alleged that they do not get any help or solution from the DWASA office even after informing them about the existing problems in writing.

They made the allegations at the corporation meeting with the ward councillors at Nagar Bhaban in presence of DWASA managing director Taqsem A Khan. DSCC Mayor Sayeed Khokon chaired the meeting.

As many as 50 male and 14 female councillors took part in the meeting.

The councillors alleged that there is severe scarcity of drinking water in their areas.

Even though the residents get water supply, the water cannot be sued due to stink.

Also the water pipelines and sewerage lines get mixed in many places, many of the water pumps are found dysfunctional and field level officials of WASA are mostly unavailable, they complained.

No solution is found even after sending letters several times regarding the problems, which puts them in an awkward situation before the citizens of the areas, they commented.

Residents of many areas are forced to purchase water not getting any water supply from the DWASA, they claimed.

After listening to the problems, Sayeed Khokon assured the councillors of taking temporary and long-term coordinated steps along with WASA to help lessen public sufferings.

Taqsem A Khan assured of reducing water-logging remarkably from next year.
