Board members of the Dhaka Transport Coordination Authority (DTCA) on Monday directed the body to form two committees - in a meeting held over two years after their last meeting.

One of the committees is the executive committee of the board, through which the DTCA aims to hold monthly meetings for better coordination of their duties related to the transportation of greater Dhaka city.

The 17th DTCA board meeting was held at the Bidyut Bhaban with Md Fouzul Kabir Khan, adviser to the Road Transport and Bridges (RTB) and Railway Ministries in the chair.

The meeting also decided that Dr Sheikh Moinuddin, who joined at the RTB Ministry on Sunday, will head all the committees.

Dr Moinuddin was appointed as the special assistant to interim government's chief adviser with the status of state minister and was given executive authority over the RTB Ministry, according to a circular issued on March 5.

He was invited in the DTCA Board meeting as a special guest a day after his joining the ministry on Sunday.

Officials said Dr Moinuddin will head the committee formed to introduce unified ticketing system for all public transports through Rapid Pass and Clearing House Company, which is awaiting formation.

According to the DTCA Act 2012, board has scope to form different committees with no mention of board executive committee.

Sources said it was not possible to hold the meetings frequently due to a huge number of members.

However, the adviser directed to take due steps to hold the board meeting every three to four months for better coordination among all stakeholders.

According to DTCA Act 2012 section 7, the DTCA Board comprises 28 members with RTB Minister as chairman and two Dhaka city mayors as vice chairman, which are now replaced by advisor to RTB Ministry and administrators of Dhaka South City Corporation and Dhaka North City Corporation as vice chairmen.

Other members include mayors of Narayanganj and Gazipur City Corporations, Manikganj, Munishiganj, Savar and Narsingdi Pourasava, secretaries of Road Transport Highways Division, Public Safety Division of Home Minister, Shipping Ministry, Railways, local government and rural development and cooperative, bridge division, Inspector General of Police, Director general of Bangladesh Railway , Chief Engineer of Roads and Highways Department and Chairman of RAJUK, BRTA, BRTC and BIWTA.
