The Dhaka University Central Students' Union (DUCSU), in collaboration with the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TIKA), has taken up a project worth approximately Tk 27.5 million (2.75 crore) to modernise the DU Medical Centre (DUMC).
On Wednesday, a delegation from DUCSU met with TIKA's Country Coordinator Mohammad Ali Arman at the agency's office in the capital's Baridhara area.
The project includes supply of an ambulance, ten modern air-conditioners, X-ray and ECG machines, analysers, microscopes, hospital beds, cabinets, chairs, desks, and other essential medical equipment.
In addition, renovation of the medical centre's infrastructure is also underway. Construction of a model pharmacy and an emergency unit on the ground floor of the centre is also going on. Significant progress on implementation of the project is expected within the next month.
Alongside the infrastructure upgradation, TIKA has also initiated healthcare programmes for students.
