An electric shuttle bus service has been launched on Dhaka University campus, aiming to ensure safer and more convenient transportation of students, report agencies.

Four electric shuttle cars will operate daily from 8:00 am to 8:00 pm under the initiative supported by Green Future Foundation.

The fare for a ride has been set between Tk 10 and Tk 20 depending on the route.

Each shuttle car- with a seating capacity of 14 - will have a volunteer on board to assist passengers during the journey.

Initially, the shuttle cars will run on four designated routes on the campus.

CU Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Administration) Prof Dr Md Kamal Uddin said after seeing proper use and effectiveness of the cars, the students will decide whether they want this service or not. The university administration said if the e-cars are launched on the CU campus, environmental pollution will be reduced.

It was also announced that the opinions of students, teachers, and employees will be sought during the trial run, he added.
