Eternal rest for Justice Bazlur Rahman

CHAPAINAWABGANJ, Jan 2 (Agencies): Bazlur Rahman Chhana, a serving judge of the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court, was laid to eternal rest at the family graveyard at his ancestral home at the northwestern town here a day after he passed away losing a battle with cancer.

A large number of people cutting across their social, professional and political backgrounds thronged his home to have their last glimpses of Rahman, more known as Chhana among the people in the neighbourhood and close associates, as a military helicopter flew the body to his hometown.

After the second namaz-e-janaza, he was buried at the Khalghat graveyard in the town at 4:30 pm.

Workers Party leader Fazley Hossain Badsha, MP, Chapainawabganj Zila Parishad chairman and district Awami League president Moinuddin Mondal, district and sessions judge, deputy commissioner, lawyers, freedom fighters and a number of admirers and relatives joined his janaza and burial.

His first namaz-e-janaza was held earlier in the morning on the Supreme Court premises.

Meanwhile, the Supreme Court (SC) suspended its regular judicial activities for Monday following the demise of Justice Mohammad Bazlur Rahman.

Arunav Chakrawarty, additional registrar of the Supreme Court, said the Appellate Division decided to suspend its activities for Monday.

Justice Bazlur Rahman, who had been suffering from liver cirrhosis for long, breathed his last at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) around 6:15 pm on Sunday.
