Ex-CAAB chief engineer on two-day remand

FE REPORT | February 17, 2026 00:00:00

A Dhaka Court placed Md Habibur Rahman, former chief engineer of the Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (CAAB), on a two-day remand in a corruption case filed on charge of misappropriating Tk 1.50 billion from a project.

Judge of the Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge's Court, Md Sabbir Faiz, passed the order after hearing a petition, filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) seeking him on remand.

Md Aminul Islam, assistant director (prosecution) of the ACC, confirmed the court order on Monday.

He further said the ACC had submitted a petition to the court, seeking a three-day remand for the accused on February 1.

Upon hearing on the petition, the court on February 10 granted a two-day remand for the accused, and the investigation officer took him into his custody on Monday (February 16) for questioning.

According to the remand petition, the accused, along with others named in the FIR, colluded to embezzle around Tk 1.50 billion from the Cox's Bazar International Airport runway expansion project - through fraud, forgery and other irregularities, in violation of administrative authority.

During the tender process, he served as a supervising engineer and member-secretary of the tender evaluation committee.
