Ex-UGC chief Prof Zahurul Huq dies

Prof Dr Zahurul Huq, former chairman of the University Grants Commission (UGC) and also a retired professor of the Department of Economics of Dhaka University (DU), died on Tuesday at Square Hospital in the city. He was 79, reports UNB.

Prof Huq had been suffering from kidney problem and liver cirrhosis for a long time.

He left behind his wife, one son, two daughters and a host of relatives and well-wishers to mourn his death.

His namaz-e-janaza was held at Dhaka University central mosque after Zohr prayers and he was laid to rest at the Martyred Intellectuals' Graveyard in Mirpur.
