Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan has exchanged views with the expatriate Bangladeshis living in South Korea and listened to their difficulties, reports UNB.
During a three-hour event in Seoul, the expatriate Bangladeshis spontaneously discussed issues related to their passports and other matters.
The home minister, now on an official visit to Seoul at the initiative of the Embassy of Bangladesh, attended the interaction on Sunday, said the Embassy on Monday.
He responded to all of their queries related to applying for a new passport, renewal of passport, e-passport, dual citizenship, police clearance, establishment of specialised hospital for the expatriate Bangladeshis and pending cases in different courts.
Director General of the Department of Passport Major General Md Sohail Hossain Khan, PSC, and other senior officials of the Ministry of Home Affairs, Dhaka were present.
The home minister said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is placing greater emphasis on establishing good governance.
At the same time, he said, Bangladesh is marching ahead in digitising the country, and the home ministry has already taken necessary initiatives to introduce e-passport in due course.
The home minister said the Prime Minister is also considering offering more facilities to the expatriates who regularly send remittances to Bangladesh through legal channels.
He encouraged the expatriates there to invest more in Bangladesh and said the Home Ministry is working towards bringing the services to the doorsteps of people apart from ensuring security for them.
The home minister described the different welfare activities undertaken and carried out by the home ministry.
Before the programme, the home minister visited the Consular Section of the Embassy and enquired about its activities.
