Female candidates must have honours degrees

The government has issued new guidelines for recruitment in its primary schools raising the minimum qualification of female candidates to honours from HSC, reports bdnews24.com.
Male candidates only with honours and minimum second class or equal CGPA from any recognised university or any equivalent degrees were eligible to apply to become assistant teacher or headmaster of government primary schools until now.
The minimum qualification for female candidates was higher secondary certificate (HSC) or equivalent degrees.
"Now the minimum qualification for all candidates - female and male - has been set at honours," Primary and Mass Education Secretary Akram Al Hossain told the news agency on Tuesday after the publication of the new guidelines.
Work to upgrade the primary schoolteachers' salary scale is under way after the changes in minimum qualification of the candidates of the job, he added.
The recruitment process in the 65,593 government primary schools across Bangladesh will be the same - - through tests and promotions, according to the secretary
As many as 60 per cent seats in the recruitment tests will be reserved for women, 20 per cent for children of teachers and the remaining 60 per cent for men in line with the new guidelines.
Also, 20 per cent of the teachers recruited through tests must have bachelor's with honours degrees in science stream.
If sufficient candidates from science do not apply, the posts can be filled up from the merit list, the secretary said.
The guidelines have set the age limit for the candidates from 21 to 30.
