PABNA, Aug 29 (UNB): Police on Wednesday arrested the ex-father-in-law of female journalist Subarna Akther, who was hacked to death by unidentified miscreants, from a hospital in the town. The arrestee was identified as Abul Hossain, a local industrialist and owner of Shimla Hospital and Diagnostic Centre.
Subarna Akhter Nodi, 32, district correspondent of private channel Ananda TV, and editor of the Daily Jagroto Bangla, an online news portal, was hacked to death on Tuesday.
Abul Hossain was arrested from Shimla Hospital after Nodi's mother filed a case with Sadar Police Station against 6-7 people, including Abul Hossain and his son Razib, over the killing, said additional police superintendent Goutam Kumar Biswas.
Victim's relatives said Nodi got married with Razib Hossain, son of Abul Hossain, one and a half years back without the consent of Razib's family. When Razib divorced Nodi, she filed a dowry case against Razib which is still under trial.
Meanwhile, The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) on Wednesday expressed concern at the killing of female journalist Suborna Akhter in front of her house at Radhanagar Majumdarparha in Pabna district town on Tuesday night.
In a statement, Chairman of the commission Kazi Reazul Hoque said, "I strongly condemn the killing of Nodi. I urge the authorities concerned to ensure justice through bringing the killers to book after identifying them."
