Eight people died in separate road accidents in three districts on Tuesday, report agencies.
In Faridpur, five people were killed and four others were injured, as a microbus fell into a pond after being hit by a train on Gerda level-crossing on Rjabari-Bhanga rail route in Faridpur Sadar upazila.
Four of the deceased were identified as Sayem, 40, son of Masum Sharif, Sadia Zahir, 45, Rani Sharif Bhuiya, 67, and Raihan, 11, all from Narayanganj district, while the identity of another deceased could not be known immediately.
The Munshibazar-bound microbus from Gerda plunged into the pond near the rail tracks after the Dhaka-bound Madhumati Express train from Khulna hit it while it was passing the unauthorised level-crossing at around 12:15 pm, leaving three people dead on the spot and six others injured.
The injured were taken to Faridpur Medical College and Hospital, where the doctors declared two of them dead.
The microbus got smashed, as the train dragged the microbus 100-150 yards along the tracks.
Meanwhile, in Naogaon, two people were killed in a road accident on Naogaon-Mahadevapur regional highway in Mahadevpur upazila.
The deceased were Fardin Hossain, son of Manik Hossain from South Hosainpur village in Mahadevapur, and Rezuan Islam, son of Shariful Islam from Shyampur village.
Fardin and Rezuan were returning to Mahadevapur from Naogaon Sadar on a motorcycle at around 10 am. The motorbike crashed into a truck parked by the roadside, leaving Fardin Hossain dead on the spot.
Rezuan was rescued and taken to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital, where he died while undergoing treatment.
In Gazipur, a woman was killed after being run over by a train in Mouchak area. The deceased was identified as Khurshida Akhtar (42), daughter of Sonu Khan and Zahera Khatun, hailed from village Khamargaon under Nandail of Mymensingh.
