Five killed as truck rams auto-rickshaw in Cumilla

CUMILLA, Feb 18 (UNB): Five people were killed and two others injured when a speeding truck rammed into a CNG-run auto-rickshaw on Cumilla-Sylhet regional highway in the early hours of Friday.

The deceased were identified as auto driver Julhas Mia, 60, and passengers--Jahirul Islam, 36, and Jalal Ahmed, 37, Saiful Islam, 33, of Burichang upazila and Alamgir Hossain, 37, of Debidwar upazila in Cumilla.

The accident occurred when the speeding truck hit the Cumilla-bound auto-rickshaw from behind near the Tutbagan area around 07:00 am, leaving all the passengers of the light vehicle dead on the spot, said Belal Uddin Jahangir, officer-in-charge of Moynamoti Highway police station.
