Flood-ravaged roads to be repaired before Eid: Quader

July 23, 2019 00:00:00

Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader said on Monday flood-ravaged roads in the country will be repaired on an emergency basis ahead of Eid-ul-Azha, reports UNB.

"The roads in the flood-affected areas got damaged, and those are being repaired on an emergency basis.

The repair work is expected to be completed before Eid," he said.

The minister said this while talking to reporters on recent issues at the secretariat.

About movement of trucks, lorries and heavy vehicles, the minister said these vehicles will not be permitted to ply highways three days before and after the Eid.

He said the condition of highways is now better and hopefully there will be no traffic jam this time.

Quader also said the authorities concerned have been instructed not to allow setting up of cattle markets on roads and highways.

The minister said he requested Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) for allowing Eid vacation to their workers in phases.

Replying to a question over Priya Saha's complaint to US President Donald Trump, Quader said, "We are investigating whether there was involvement of any other person in the matter."

She will be interrogated over her statement once she returns home.

"I think what she said is imaginary, false and ill-motivated."

Replying to another question, Quader said, "We can't ignore the issue saying Priya Saha an ordinary person. She leads an NGO and is also organisational secretary of Bangladesh Hindu Buddhist Christian Oikya Parishad. So we can't ignore it."
