Four more children die of measles, similar symptoms in 24 hours

The health authorities on Monday reported four more deaths from measles and measles-like symptoms in the past 24 hours until 8:0 am on Monday.

With the latest daily count, the total fatalities due to measles and its identical symptoms reached 653 since mid-March this year.

Of the total fatalities, 93 were confirmed as measles cases.

And, of the total confirmed and suspected measles deaths, 296 were reported in Dhaka, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) bulletin.

Meanwhile, as many as 972 suspected and 64 confirmed infections were recorded in the past hours.

The total suspected infections rose 86,923 and confirmed measles cases to 10,387 since mid March 15 last, said DGHS bulletin.

In response to a measles outbreak rapidly spreading across the country, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has already launched an emergency measles-rubella vaccination campaign, targeting children aged six months to five years since April 5.
