Four more die from burn injuries in Rangpur

Four more people have died from burn injuries at Rangpur Medical College Hospital after trying to ward off the winter cold with a fire, reports bdnews24.com.

One man and two women died between 6am and 7:30am on Monday, while another woman died at 10pm on Sunday.

They were identified as Khukumoni, 70, Jainul Abedin, 65, Hacho Begum, 67, and Jamirun Bewa, 80.

Ten others have died at Rangpur Medical College Hospital since the start of the new year in similar circumstances, Rangpur Burn Unit Assistant Director Noor-e Alam said on Monday. Two other victims died of burns on Saturday night and one woman died on Sunday morning.

Ankhi Akhtar, 45, Ruma Khatun, 65, Golapi Begum, 30, Shammi Akhtar, 27, Fatema Begum, 32, Alo Begum, 22, Rehena Begum, 25, Moni Begum, 25 and Marufa Khatun, 30, and Afroza Khatun were among the dead.

All of them were burned while stoking makeshift fires to ward off the cold, Alam said.
